Stage Fright

Matthew loves to make noises. That includes loud jabbering sounds and blowing air across his lips to form spit bubbles. He started mimicking his mama and daddy with the "motor boat" sounds, but now he is perfectly content to do that on his own and entertain himself, especially in the morning. The evening is when he will jabber so loud that no one else in the room with him can carry on a conversation. Matthew is able to do all these things, except when he is put on the spot to do them. Requests to talk to grandma on the phone, or blow bubbles on Skype via the webcam just result in silence and blank stares. No matter how much begging or prodding is done, Matthew just will not cooperate; until the phone is hung up or the laptop turned off. The video camera has a similar effect. The real question is: does he actually have stage fright, or is he just stubborn?
